SUMMARY FOR THE NEXT 6 DAYS -//> UPDATED FOR MONDAY, MARCH 15th at 7:28pm (Sunday evening)...Today -> High pressure ridges in, with milder temperatures under mostly sunny skies. Monday looks a bit warm, with low to mid 50's possible for many base elevation areas.
Tuesday and Wednesday -> Winds increase some as high pressure weakens due to low pressure to the north. There is a chance that this low pressure will move in closer to Tahoe, but for now we just see some clouds and continued mild temperatures.
Thursday through Saturday -> It looks like high pressure ridging aloft may continue, with warm, spring-like temperatures. Changes are expected next week.

Long range forecast / discussion...March 21 to 24
--Next week we may have a blocking high pressure ridge over the central Pacific (north through Alaska), with large scale low pressure developing over Canada and sitting there. This would deliver sun at times, and storms dropping in out of the north with limited moisture and drier/ colder/ light snow. This pattern may last for a week (low confidence for now). The last days of March, and April should be a good spring period for snow (and will be interesting) as the pattern remains unsettled most of the time, broken up by brief periods of high pressure ridging (mostly sunny and milder). We should see above average extra snow pack in the Sierra Nevada Mountains (not totaled for the winter, but the additional March and April snow). One thing about an El Nino year; The spring showers usually carry on well into May. Our El Nino pattern is weakening however, and many are talking about a La Nina sea surface temperature event for the next season. It is never cut and dry in the world of weather! We will watch and update as we get closer.
--WINTER 09-10' OUTLOOK FROM OCTOBER; For the Tahoe region, we expect heavier than average snowfall, with most of it from January 1st onward, though we do expect some heavy snow to start falling this month and in December. Temperatures are expected to be near average, with some wide variations and extreme cold spells. We will be adding more detail to this as we go along. CM
