::: MOSTLY ISOLATED SHOWERS, CHILLY :::
SUMMARY FOR THE WEEK -//> UPDATED FOR WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8th at 7:43am...Today and Thursday -> The strong early season low pressure system carves further south, and the jet stream + limited moisture + colder air and a lot of instability move over the region. There is a chance for showers, and snow at 7,500 to 8,000 feet. The showers should be mostly isolated (best chances for precip are across the north side of the lake, like at Squaw and Incline Village). The chance for showers continues into early Thursday, then we see low pressure move off to the east on Thursday, with clearing (of partly to mostly cloudy skies) and cool temperatures.
Friday through Sunday -> A high pressure ridge builds in across the west, while lower pressure remains and continues across the northern tier states (WA/ ID/ MT). We expect warmer temperatures and some west breezes, under mostly sunny skies (except for some high clouds mainly). CM

Long range forecast / discussion...September 13 to 16
~High pressure ridging holds for most of next week, with warm temperatures (just above average) and mostly light breezes. After the 15th (late next week), we see more strong low pressure developing across the northwest US from out of the Gulf of Alaska, so we will watch for possible surprises from this system.
There is a strengthening La Nina SST pattern that is expected to remain for the coming fall/ winter, through possibly the season following (through 2012). This could go either way for northern California resorts, with the Northwest US in general usually receiving above average rain and snow. We will work up some comparisons of previous La Nina years this summer, in preparation for the upcoming season.
