Terry Peak Ski Area is positioned geographically to receive substantial snowfall through the winter months thanks to its location in the Northern Black Hills, at elevations of 5,900-ft to over 7,000-ft. More snow falls on the Northern Black Hills than anywhere else does in the region. It's common for snowfall predictions to exceed up to three times of what was anticipated or to receive snowfall at 5,500-ft and higher when snow wasn't expected at all. Over 50 acres of new terrain was open for the 04/05 season to intermediate and advanced skiers and riders. Terry Peak is the highest ski and board area east of the Rockies, offers 1,100 vertical feet of rise, and is home to the Black Hills only two high-speed detachable quad chairlifts. Slopes are groomed nightly, including Area'76 Terrain Park, and snowmaking provides coverage on 60% of the mountain. The recent 100 acre expansion for intermediate and expert skiers & riders include Maringo, Missing Link, North Side and Ben Hur Glades, and have added a downhill experience unlike anywhere else in the Black Hills.
