AVERAGE TEMPERATURES FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR;

-At 6,500 feet (Park City~base); Low 25, High 49
-At 8,500 feet (Alta~base); Low 19, High 37

:::Overall, this week looks busy with 2 storms:::

SUMMARY FOR THE NEXT 6 DAYS -//> UPDATED FOR MONDAY, MARCH 21st at 7:17pm...(Sunday evening)...Monday and Tuesday -> COLD STORM MOVES IN; Increasing winds and clouds move in due to a low pressure system out of the Northwest US, along with a cold front dropping in during the day. Strong upper level dynamics move overhead of limited moisture, for mostly light snow Monday into Tuesday, with some favored areas like Alta and Solitude (west slope of the Wasatch) picking up possibly 1/2 foot of snow through Tuesday evening. Snow ends Tuesday night after a day of light snow and northeast breezes.

Wednesday and Thursday -> PARTLY CLOUDY, ANOTHER STORM IN THE PIPELINE; On Wednesday low pressure scoots across Colorado and leaves Utah dry with partly cloudy skies. Another storm moves into the Pacific Northwest while Utah sits under high pressure ridging aloft on Thursday. Mild temperatures are expected during a mostly sunny spring-like afternoon (morning looks cold however). By Thursday night the next storm starts moving in, with snow showers developing again.

Friday and Saturday -> ANOTHER STORM, THIS ONE LOOKS BETTER; Clouds and winds increase on Friday with the next storm. Snow showers are expected all day Friday, and snow continues through Saturday afternoon/ evening as this low pressure system moves through. We should see a better shot of snow, with more moisture hitting northern Utah this time.

Sunday -> CLEARING OUT TO A PARTLY CLOUDY DAY; Low pressure moves out, and partly cloudy/ mostly sunny skies are possible after some (possible) fresh snow the previous 2 days. Milder temperatures are expected.

Long range forecast / discussion...March 28 to 31

--It looks like winter made sure to leave good snow storms for spring. After a Monday and Tuesday (29th/ 30th) break (partly cloudy/ mostly sunny, milder), we may see a strong mid to late week storm, and another snow storm that weekend, for frequent snowfall during the first several days of April. Pacific storms (with snow) should move through with good frequency right into mid April, to finish off the season on an improved note we believe (improved weekly snow amounts compared to weekly mid winter totals).

--WINTER OUTLOOK (from early November); This winter we expect near to below average snowfall for northern Utah including Alta. For southern Utah including Brian Head, we expect above average snowfall. Most of the heavier snowfall does not arrive until after the 1st of January, but we do expect some significant storms this month and also in December. Temperatures are expected to be colder than average across northern Utah and near average for southern Utah, with wide variations and some extreme cold periods. CM
