6-day Forecast Discussion Updated for Wednesday, November 19, 2008PLEASE NOTE: The temperatures shown for "base" are more of a mid mountain temperature forecast. SUMMARY FOR THE WEEK -//> We have a strong ridge of high pressure aloft still in place over the Western US, with mostly sunny skies, mild days and chilly nights. High pressure aloft is weakening however. On Thursday, a storm moves into the Northwest US with rain and snow there, dry for us. Temperatures look cooler Thursday through Saturday in advance of low pressure developing across the Pacific. We see a big weather change coming Sunday and next week.
TODAY -//> A strong and highly amplified though weakening ridge aloft continues, with mostly sunny skies and mostly light breezes. Days look mild and nights look chilly in mostly dry air, with a few high clouds floating through at times.
Thursday -//> A Pacific storm moves into the Northwest US, with a few clouds and increased northwest breezes as the storm clips areas to the north.
Friday through Sunday -//> We see high pressure ridge back in aloft (briefly) over the area, with mostly sunny skies and milder temperatures again expected. Low pressure begins developing out west, and this signals the start of a much colder and at times snowy pattern starting Monday and continuing at times next week (Please see the longer-range discussion below the six-day forecast details).
Monday -//> The first Gulf of Alaska storm in a series begins to move in, with increasing clouds and winds. Showers begin to develop during the day Monday, and continue through part of Tuesday with mostly light snow possible (any snow is good snow). CM

Long range forecast / discussion...November 25 to 28--Several storms line up in the Pacific and start moving into the Western US, some clipping the area and some moving through, with a good shot at snowfall every 2 days through all of next week as the pattern reverts back to unsettled. We remain unsettled through much of the remainder of November. *The East and West coasts usually trade unsettled/ rain/ snow patterns with calm/ sunny/ high pressure patterns (not always), back and forth, and the East Coast should be unsettled now through the 24th.
