Crested Butte Mountain Resort (Base: 9,375', Top: 12,162')
6-day Forecast Discussion Updated for Thursday, August 21, 2008PLEASE NOTE: The temperatures shown for "base" are more of a mid mountain temperature forecast. In season (October through April) we will be back to forecasting base and top temperatures for our partner resorts (Aspen-Snowmass/ Beaver Creek/ Breckenridge/ Copper Mountain/ Crested Butte/ Keystone/ Vail/ Winter Park).
OVERALL SITUATION TODAY -//> Low pressure moves through the Northern Rockies with some snow possible at their highest elevations. We expect high pressure aloft to weaken some, and west winds to develop in the still drier air. No thunderstorms are expected anywhere in Colorado.
Friday -//> Low pressure moves through to the north, and a cold front with some return moisture drops south along the front range. We have some isolated afternoon thunderstorms forecast with lighter winds.
Saturday and Sunday -//> A high pressure ridge builds in from Mexico, with a warm weekend under partly cloudy skies. Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are possible each afternoon, but mainly by Sunday as more moisture seeps in.
Monday and Tuesday -//> Another storm moves into the Northwest US, with a dry west flow aloft pushing moisture east and south for mostly sunny skies developing again. West winds also develop as a low pressure trough move through. CM

Long range forecast / discussion...August 27 to 30-Wednesday and Thursday of next week look mostly dry under a northwest flow aloft. We see very little chance for showers or thunderstorms, with mostly sunny skies dominating. Temperatures look near/ above average. By next weekend, a storm may move through with rain showers, and maybe even some more snow. We will be watching. CM
